Started watching this the day after it was announced that it was cancelled after the first season. According to people on the internet, it's the worst show in the history of TV shows, or something like that. But I'll make my own judgment.
After having watched all eight episodes, my verdict is... it's pretty good. I don't understand the devastating criticism. Did I watch something different? Strangely enough, I thought that Sol was the weakest link. Strange, because many of the most vocal critics saw him as the only good thing in the show. He sounded like he had a cotton ball in his mouth when he was speaking. It felt like he didn't understand what he was saying. It's not just his thick accent. His vocabulary and slow talking just took me out of it every time he opened his mouth. In general, the acting is my main criticism. Apart from Carrie-Anne Moss and maybe Manny Jacinto, there's not much to write home about here.
However, the production quality is good; similar to other recent Star Wars shows. The villain(s) are great. Again, it's good Star Wars-type entertainment.
The Acolyte was review-bombed even before its premiere. That's what toxic fan bases will do. Subsequently, it was cancelled because of low viewership. It's a shame, especially considering the final moments of the show. I would have liked to see where it was going.
