Freddy Schilling Hamburger Cologne

FoodRestaurant • 2023-06-18

Again, basically my neighbor and not only one of two Freddy Schillings in Cologne but also one of two “upscale” burger places in my immediate vicinity, the other one being Butch Cassidy’s1.

I don’t have a go-to place for burgers, because I just don’t eat burgers that often or make them myself. In those rare cases I go there, I usually pick up their “Aktionsburger” (monthly special).

Takumi Teryaki Burger

Had this burger and an order of fries with mayo2 from Freddy Schilling, having visited Butch Cassidy last week.

Giving it an exotic vibe, with spring onions, lettuce, a shallots-sesame crunch with mayo and teriyaki sauces, both house-made, the burger was very good. I do like onions however. It was served on a special bun3, which I actually liked a lot. The patty unfortunately a little bit overdone, slightly above medium.

The fries in a cleaner cut, also house-made, are excellent. The mayo is, well… mayo.

All in all, a notch above the rival from Zülpicher Straße. But I’m not calling this one for Freddy Schilling yet, since I have yet to try a more “high-end” burger at B&Cs.

More expensive and smaller portions than the rival from Zülpi. Service asks for first name when ordering for pickup4 and is usually friendly.

Die Wilde Wutz

The "Wilde Wutz" is a burger with freshly minced wild boar meat from the Lüneburger Heide, apples, onions, mushrooms, rosemary, and cranberry mayo.

I went all out and also got the Candy Bacon Fries: homemade French fries with "bacon candy", Roquefort blue cheese mayo and spring onions. It all came together nicely. No complaints here.

1 that burger place does not exist anymore
2 not sure why I didn’t go for one of their other sauces
3 not sure what it was called
4 I go by "Ingo"
