I waited a long time before watching this movie, after having read numerous times how sad, depressing, and heartbreaking it was. And yes, it is an utterly depressing, harrowing story, but it didn't move me as much as other films have. And that's coming from someone who has, over the last couple of years, evolved from cold robot to emotionally sensitive empath.
Maybe it's the fact that throughout the story you can see the end result coming. There are no ups and downs, just a grinding, inexorable descend into doom. Call me a monster, but I was a bit disappointed, expecting more of an explosion of soul-stirring emotions. I received a despondent misery from start to finish.
